Tutorial: Thermomechanical constitutive modeling of shape memory polymers

Shape memory polymers (SMPs) are one of the intriguing functional materials and have been widely intensively studied. In order to apply these new load bearing engineering structures devices, developing physics-based thermomechanical constitutive models is mandatory. The aim this Tutorial demonstrate how establish a model for SMPs. It begins with classifications SMPs, followed by discussion on underlying physics different After that, three classical SMP modeling frameworks introduced, which include visco-elasto-plastic based rheological framework, storage strain-based phase transition representative unit cell multi-branch framework. Next, commonly adopted establishment methods presented within detailed examples. Finally, future perspectives research direction discussed.
